About Treta ke Thakur
Treta ke Thakur is believed to stand where Lord Ram performed the Ashwamedha Yagna. The temple houses idols of Lord Ram, Sita and other figures from the Ramayana, traditionally said to be carved from black stone.
It is said to have been built by a king of Kullu and was renovated in 1784 under the Maratha queen Ahilyabai Holkar.
What makes it special is that it opens to the public only once a year, on Kartik Shukla Ekadashi (October or November), when devotees can have darshan throughout the day.
Getting there
How to Reach Treta ke Thakur
The temple is near Naya Ghat on the Saryu, a short walk from Ram ki Paidi. On the opening day expect large crowds and road closures around the ghats.
