About Dashrath Mahal
Dashrath Mahal, also called Dashrath Bhawan, Bada Asthan or Badi Jagah, stands on the spot believed to be the palace of King Dasharatha, Lord Ram's father. Tradition holds that Ram and his brothers spent their childhood here.
Today it is a temple complex rather than a palace: a colourful painted gateway leads to a courtyard and a shrine with idols of Ram, Sita and Lakshman. Sadhus often sing from the Ramayana and play devotional music here.
The complex is especially busy during Ram Navami, Ram Vivah, Diwali and the Kartik Mela.

Dashrath Mahal is in Ramkot, a short walk from Hanuman Garhi and Kanak Bhawan, so it fits easily into a walking darshan of the old town.
