Nandi Hills rises to about 1,470 metres and is the most popular short getaway from Bangalore. It is known above all for sunrise, when the surrounding valleys are often filled with low cloud.
The hilltop has an old fort associated with Tipu Sultan, the Yoga Nandeeshwara temple, and several viewpoints. It gets very crowded on weekends, so a weekday visit is considerably more pleasant.
Reached by road via the Bengaluru-Hyderabad highway, roughly 1.5 to 2 hours by car. Most visitors drive or hire a cab, leaving the city very early.
