Lalbagh Botanical Garden

Lalbagh is one of Bangalore's defining green spaces, laid out in the eighteenth century under Hyder Ali and later expanded by Tipu Sultan. It spreads over roughly 240 acres in the south of the city.

Its centrepiece is the Glass House, modelled on London's Crystal Palace, which hosts the well-known flower shows held around Republic Day and Independence Day. The garden also contains a lake, a large collection of tropical and subtropical plants, and the Lalbagh Rock - a peninsular gneiss formation estimated to be around three billion years old.

It is popular with walkers and joggers in the early morning and stays busy through the evening.

Nearest metro is Lalbagh on the Green Line. The garden has several gates, with the main one on Lalbagh Road and another near the Double Road side. Autos and cabs are easy to find.
