Guptar Ghat

Guptar Ghat is believed to be the place where Lord Ram entered the waters of the Saryu (jal samadhi) at the end of his life on earth and returned to Vaikuntha. A dip here is considered especially meritorious.

The ghats were rebuilt in the 19th century by Raja Darshan Singh, and there are several temples, including the Sita-Ram, Chakrahari and Narsingh temples. Next to the ghat is the green Guptar Ghat Van, formerly the Company Garden.

Compared with the crowded ghats of the old town, Guptar Ghat is peaceful, which makes it a good place for a quiet hour by the river.

Guptar Ghat is in the cantonment area of Faizabad, about 10 km from Ayodhya Dham Junction and closer to Ayodhya Cantt railway station. Take an auto or taxi; combine it with Gulab Bari and Bahu Begum ka Maqbara, which are in the same part of the city.
