Gulab Bari

Gulab Bari, the “garden of roses”, is the tomb of Nawab Shuja-ud-Daula, the third Nawab of Awadh, who ruled from 1753 to 1775 and made Faizabad his capital.

The walled complex is entered through large gateways and contains the tomb, a mosque, an imambara, a hammam and a baradari. The two-storey tomb stands in a charbagh garden with fountains and water channels, and the central chamber holds the graves of the Nawab and his mother.

It is protected as a Monument of National Importance and shows the Nawabi architecture of Faizabad, a very different side of Ayodhya from its temples.

Gulab Bari is in Faizabad, about 3 km from Ayodhya Cantt railway station and about 6 km from Ayodhya Dham Junction. Visit it together with Bahu Begum ka Maqbara and Guptar Ghat.
