A vast hilltop fort famous for its acoustics and Qutb Shahi history.
Golconda Fort was the capital of the Qutb Shahi dynasty and, before that, a Kakatiya stronghold. The complex spreads across a granite hill with layered fortifications, gateways, palaces and water systems.
Its most famous feature is the acoustic design - a clap at the entrance gateway can be heard at the hilltop pavilion, originally used to warn of visitors. The climb to the top is a few hundred steps and rewards you with wide views over Hyderabad.
Golconda was also historically associated with the diamond trade, including some of the world's best-known stones.
Reached by road from the city; cabs and autos are widely available. It pairs naturally with a visit to the nearby Qutb Shahi Tombs.
