History & Significance of Golconda Fort

Hyderabad District notes that Golconda began as a mud fort associated with the Kakatiyas and was later transformed by the Bahmani and Qutb Shahi rulers into a massive granite fortress. The Qutb Shahi kingdom ruled from Golconda before founding Hyderabad.

The fort fell to Mughal emperor Aurangzeb in 1687. Its surviving gateways, ramparts and acoustic design make it one of the Deccan's most important military monuments.
