The sixteenth-century monument at the heart of Hyderabad's Old City.
Charminar was built in 1591 and is the defining symbol of Hyderabad. Its four minarets rise about 56 metres, and the structure sits at a crossroads in the middle of the Old City.
Visitors can climb the narrow internal staircase for views over the surrounding bazaars. The monument is surrounded by Laad Bazaar, famous for its bangles, and the Mecca Masjid stands close by. The area is dense, lively and best explored on foot.
Reached by road through the Old City. Autos and cabs are the practical option, though traffic near Charminar is heavy - many visitors get dropped nearby and walk the last stretch.
