Shri Mangueshi Temple

Shri Mangueshi Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva worshipped locally as Bhagavan Mangesh, is among the most revered and most visited Hindu temples in Goa. Its architecture is distinctively Goan — a fusion of traditional Hindu temple form with domes, pillared halls and decorative elements that show clear Islamic and Portuguese-baroque influence, quite different in character from temples elsewhere in India, a legacy of the temple's relocation and rebuilding during the Portuguese colonial period when many Hindu temples moved inland from areas under religious pressure. A notable palanquin procession takes place on Monday evenings.
