Fontainhas Latin Quarter Panaji, Goa

Fontainhas is a small heritage neighbourhood in Panaji, Goa's capital, laid out during the Portuguese period around a natural spring (the name derives from "fountain"). Its narrow lanes are lined with brightly painted houses in the Indo-Portuguese style, decorated with azulejo tiles, wrought-iron balconies and shaded balcãos, and it is one of the best-preserved Latin Quarters in Asia. Unlike Old Goa's monumental churches, Fontainhas is a living, still-inhabited neighbourhood, best explored slowly on foot rather than visited as a single "sight."
