Se Cathedral Old Goa

Completed in 1652 after nearly 90 years of construction, Se Cathedral is one of the largest churches in Asia and, like the Basilica of Bom Jesus, part of the Old Goa UNESCO World Heritage Site. It was built to commemorate the Portuguese capture of Goa from the Bijapur Sultanate in 1510, with construction beginning under Portuguese royal patronage. The cathedral is known for its scale, its Portuguese-Gothic design with a Tuscan exterior and Corinthian interior, and for the "Golden Bell" in its surviving tower — one of the largest bells in Goa, famous for its rich tone. Only one of the original two towers still stands; the other collapsed in 1776.
