About Gadkalika Temple
Gadkalika Temple stands on the site of Ujjain's ancient fort (gadh) and is dedicated to Goddess Kali. Tradition holds that the poet Kalidasa was a devotee here and received the Goddess's blessing, which made him a great scholar.
The temple has been renovated several times, including, according to tradition, by Emperor Harshavardhana in the 7th century. It lies close to the Bhartrihari caves and Kal Bhairav.
