Pune has one of the more relaxed and genuinely enjoyable nightlife scenes in India, driven by its large student and IT populations.
Koregaon Park is the centre of it — the highest concentration of bars, lounges, live-music venues and international restaurants, along with the Osho resort that gave the neighbourhood its cosmopolitan character decades ago.
Camp and MG Road hold older, more established restaurants and bars, with a colonial-era cantonment feel.
Baner, Aundh and Balewadi in the west, and Viman Nagar and Kalyani Nagar in the east, have grown into hubs for microbreweries and gastropubs serving the IT crowd. Pune has a strong craft-beer culture — a number of independent breweries operate across the city.
Live music is better represented here than in most Indian cities of comparable size, with regular gigs across several venues, and the student population supports a decent indie and rock scene.
Most venues close by around 1am under Maharashtra licensing rules. The legal drinking age for hard liquor in Maharashtra is 25, and technically a drinking permit is required, though this is rarely enforced for visitors at licensed venues.
For non-drinking evenings, the Dagdusheth temple is beautifully lit after dark, Saras Baug and the riverfront promenades are popular, and the food streets around FC Road and JM Road are busy late.
