Two days — the essentials

Day 1 — Maratha heritage and the old city

  1. Morning: Shaniwar Wada, then walk to Lal Mahal and Kasba Ganpati
  2. Late morning: Dagdusheth Halwai Ganpati Temple, then Tulshibaug and Mahatma Phule Mandai
  3. Lunch: traditional Maharashtrian thali or misal pav in the old city
  4. Afternoon: Raja Dinkar Kelkar Museum, then Pataleshwar Cave Temple
  5. Evening: Parvati Hill for sunset, then dinner on FC Road or JM Road

Day 2 — Fort and the freedom movement

  1. Early morning: drive to Sinhagad Fort, walk the ramparts, breakfast of pithla-bhakri at the top
  2. Return via Khadakwasla Dam
  3. Lunch in the city
  4. Afternoon: Aga Khan Palace
  5. Evening: Koregaon Park — Osho Teerth Park, then dinner and drinks

Four days

Days 1 and 2 as above.

Day 3 — The Ghats

  1. Full day to Lonavala and Khandala
  2. Karla and Bhaja Buddhist caves
  3. Tiger's Leap and Bhushi Dam (spectacular in monsoon)
  4. Optional: Lohagad Fort walk
  5. Return to Pune in the evening

Day 4 — City depth and shopping

  1. Morning: Shinde Chhatri and Vishrambaug Wada
  2. Late morning: Saras Baug, Peshwe Park
  3. Lunch: Camp area, an Irani café
  4. Afternoon: shopping — Laxmi Road for textiles, MG Road for leather, Chitale Bandhu for bakarwadi
  5. Evening: microbrewery in Baner or Koregaon Park
