BY AIR
Deoghar Airport (DGH) opened in 2022 and sits about 12 km from the temple. IndiGo operates direct flights from Kolkata, taking a little over an hour, with a Delhi connection also available. Taxis are available at the terminal for the run into town or to AIIMS Deoghar. This is the fastest option and a recent change — for years Deoghar had no airport at all.
BY TRAIN
Jasidih Junction is the main railhead, about 6–7 km from Baba Baidyanath Temple, and is well connected by long-distance trains from Kolkata, Delhi, Patna and other major cities. Autos and taxis run between Jasidih and the temple throughout the day and are easy to find on arrival.
Baidyanathdham (Deoghar) station sits closer to the temple and is served by shorter-distance trains, useful if your route allows it.
BY ROAD
National Highway 114 and National Highway 133 pass through Deoghar, and the town is connected by regular bus services to Dumka, Bhagalpur, Ranchi and Patna, as well as onward into Bihar and West Bengal.
ON FOOT — THE KANWAR ROUTE
During Shravan, large numbers of pilgrims walk the 105 km from Sultanganj in Bihar, carrying Ganga water on a kanwar. This is a multi-day journey undertaken barefoot by many, and it is the reason the town's population swells so dramatically through the month.
