TOWER CHOWK is the town's main market and the natural place to shop. It is where most visitors go for religious souvenirs, hand-crafted items and textiles, and it is also the centre of the peda trade.
PEDA is the obvious purchase, and the one almost every visitor makes. Boxes are sold everywhere near the temple; the shops around Tower Chowk and the temple precincts have the strongest reputation for freshness.
RELIGIOUS ITEMS β rudraksha, prayer beads, images and idols, brass and copper puja vessels, and the kanwar itself during Shravan. The lanes approaching the temple are lined with these stalls.
PRACTICAL NOTES
Most shops open around 10 am and stay busy until 9β10 pm. Cash is the preferred payment method in local markets and smaller stalls, though larger establishments accept cards. Bargaining is normal in the market, less so for fixed-price sweet boxes.
