Discover Almora

Almora, the cultural heart of Kumaon, sits on a crescent-shaped Himalayan ridge in Uttarakhand. Known for Kumaoni culture and cuisine, ancient temples like Jageshwar, the Kasar Devi ridge and wide Himalayan views, it rewards a slower, exploratory pace.

Pleasant much of the year; March to June and September to November are ideal, with occasional snow in deep winter.

By air: Pantnagar Airport (~115–125 km) is the nearest, with limited flights. By train: Kathgodam (~80–90 km) is the nearest railhead. By road: well connected by bus and taxi from Kathgodam, Nainital, Ranikhet and Delhi.

Local taxis reach outlying sights like Jageshwar, Kasar Devi and Binsar; the old town and bazaar are best explored on foot.

Kumaoni cuisine is a highlight — bhatt ki churkani, aloo ke gutke — and Almora is famous for sweets like bal mithai and singori.

Day 1: Almora bazaar (Lala Bazaar), Nanda Devi Temple and Bright End Corner at sunset. Day 2: Kasar Devi ridge and a day trip to Jageshwar Dham. Day 3 (optional): Binsar Wildlife Sanctuary for the Zero Point Himalayan panorama.

Warm layers for cool mornings and evenings; heavier winterwear in deep winter; a rain jacket in monsoon; comfortable walking shoes.

Almora rewards a slower pace — wander its old bazaars and temples. A vehicle helps for Jageshwar, Kasar Devi and Binsar nearby.
