About Tapovan Hills
Tapovan, meaning "forest of penance", is a hilly area outside Deoghar dotted with caves where sages are said to have meditated. There is a Shiva temple known as Taponath Mahadeva at the site, and a set of caves that pilgrims and trekkers explore.
The walk up involves a moderate climb over rocky ground, so wear proper footwear. It appeals to visitors who want something quieter and more physical than the main temple circuit.
