Kashi Vishwanath Temple, dedicated to Shiva, is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas and the spiritual heart of Varanasi. Its tower carries roughly 800 kg of gold plating, donated in part by Maharaja Ranjit Singh, and Hindu tradition holds that a visit here helps one attain moksha. Only Hindus may enter the temple complex itself.

Reached on foot through the pedestrian-only Vishwanath Gali; nearest railway stations are Varanasi Cantt (~3 km) and Kashi (~2 km).
