Its tower carries roughly 800 kg of gold plating, donated in part by Maharaja Ranjit Singh, and Hindu tradition holds that a visit here helps one attain moksha. Only Hindus may enter the temple complex itself.
Reached on foot through the pedestrian-only Vishwanath Gali; nearest railway stations are Varanasi Cantt (~3 km) and Kashi (~2 km).
