About Parmarth Niketan
Parmarth Niketan sits right on the riverbank in Swarg Ashram, and its own Ganga Aarti — held each evening on a purpose-built ghat inside the ashram grounds — has become one of the most photographed rituals in Rishikesh. Rows of saffron-robed students, a large statue of Lord Shiva overlooking the water, and synchronized chanting draw a large crowd nightly, especially in peak season.
Beyond the Aarti, the ashram runs regular yoga and meditation sessions open to visitors and is one of the main hosts of Rishikesh's International Yoga Festival held each March, which brings teachers and practitioners from around the world. Guests can also just walk the peaceful grounds, take in the riverside setting, or sit in on an open session without committing to a full program.
It's worth noting Parmarth Niketan is an active, working ashram rather than a static monument — dress modestly, keep noise down, and expect the atmosphere to shift depending on whether a festival or retreat is in session.
