The two towns are close enough that most pilgrims visit both on the same trip - Haridwar for the Ganga Aarti at Har Ki Pauri, Rishikesh for yoga, ashrams and rafting.
A handful of trains run the short distance, but road transport is far more frequent and usually quicker door to door.
Only 20-25 km, roughly 40-50 minutes by road. Buses, shared autos (locally called Vikrams) and taxis run constantly throughout the day - no advance booking needed.
Neither town has an airport. Jolly Grant Airport (DED) serves both, sitting between them and closer to Rishikesh.
