Delhi Itinerary

Two days — the essentials

Day 1 — Old Delhi and Mughal heritage

  1. Morning: Red Fort (closed Mondays)
  2. Late morning: Jama Masjid, then climb the minaret for the view
  3. Lunch: Old Delhi street food — Paranthe Wali Gali or the kebab shops around Matia Mahal
  4. Afternoon: cycle-rickshaw through Chandni Chowk, Khari Baoli spice market
  5. Late afternoon: Raj Ghat
  6. Evening: Gurudwara Bangla Sahib, then dinner in Connaught Place

Day 2 — New Delhi and South Delhi

  1. Morning: Humayun's Tomb
  2. Late morning: Qutub Minar complex
  3. Lunch: Hauz Khas or Saket
  4. Afternoon: Lotus Temple, then the National Museum
  5. Evening: India Gate and Kartavya Path at dusk

Four days

Days 1 and 2 as above.

Day 3 — Agra day trip

  1. Early train (Gatimaan or Shatabdi, around 100 minutes) or car
  2. Taj Mahal (closed Fridays), Agra Fort, and Itmad-ud-Daulah if time allows
  3. Return to Delhi in the evening

Day 4 — Depth and shopping

  1. Morning: Akshardham (closed Mondays; no electronics permitted)
  2. Late morning: Lodhi Gardens and Safdarjung Tomb
  3. Afternoon: shopping — Dilli Haat, state emporia on Baba Kharak Singh Marg, or Sarojini Nagar
  4. Evening: Nizamuddin Dargah for qawwali if it's a Thursday, otherwise Lodhi Art District and dinner in Khan Market
