Mussoorie Travel Guide

Mussoorie, the "Queen of the Hills", sits in the Garhwal Himalayas near Dehradun and is one of the closest full-fledged hill stations to Delhi. It offers Doon Valley views, Kempty Falls, the Mall Road and a colonial charm associated with the writer Ruskin Bond.

Roughly February/March to November, with pleasant summers. Monsoon can be heavy; winters are cold with occasional light snowfall.

By air: Jolly Grant Airport, Dehradun (~60 km), is the nearest airport. By train: Dehradun railway station (~35 km) is the nearest railhead, well connected to Delhi. By road: regular buses and taxis run from Dehradun and Delhi (~290 km); the final climb from Dehradun is winding.

Local taxis cover the sights; the Mall Road is largely pedestrian and pleasant to walk. Ropeways connect to Gun Hill, and shared cabs reach Kempty Falls and Lal Tibba.

North Indian and cafe fare dominate the Mall Road, with Garhwali specialities and street snacks available. Landour's bakeries are a local favourite.

Day 1: Mall Road, Gun Hill (by ropeway) and Camel's Back Road at sunset. Day 2: Kempty Falls and the Lal Tibba / Landour area for the widest Himalayan views. Day 3 (optional): Explore heritage Landour lanes or a short trip towards Dhanaulti.

Warm layers for cool evenings year-round; heavier winterwear December–February; a rain jacket in monsoon; comfortable walking shoes for the Mall and hill paths.

Mall Road gets very crowded on summer weekends and holidays. Allow extra time for the winding drive up from Dehradun, and stay near the Mall to reduce steep walks with luggage.
