Mount Abu Travel Guide

Mount Abu is Rajasthan's only hill station, an oasis in the Aravalli Range with its highest peak Guru Shikhar. Famed for the exquisite Dilwara Jain Temples, Nakki Lake and Sunset Point, it is a cool retreat amid Rajasthan's arid plains.

Roughly November to February for cool, pleasant weather, though it stays milder than the Rajasthan plains through much of the year.

By air: Maharana Pratap Airport, Udaipur (~163–176 km), is the nearest airport. By train: Abu Road (~27–28 km) is the nearest railhead, with trains from Delhi, Mumbai, Ahmedabad and Jaipur. By road: well connected by bus from Udaipur (~165 km), Ahmedabad (~225 km) and Jodhpur; the final climb from Abu Road is scenic.

Local taxis and shared jeeps cover the town and viewpoints; much of central Mount Abu around Nakki Lake is walkable. Cabs reach Guru Shikhar and Sunset Point.

Rajasthani and Gujarati vegetarian thalis are widely available, along with street snacks and sweets around Nakki Lake and the market.

Day 1: Nakki Lake boating, the market and Sunset Point in the evening. Day 2: Dilwara Jain Temples (mind the visiting hours and dress code) and Guru Shikhar. Day 3 (optional): Achalgarh Fort, the wildlife sanctuary and further viewpoints.

Light warm layers for cool winter evenings; comfortable walking shoes; modest clothing for temple visits; sun protection for bright days.

The Dilwara Temples have limited tourist visiting hours and strict rules (dress code, photography restrictions) — check before visiting. The winding climb from Abu Road is scenic but slow; allow time.
