Rishikesh FAQ

Part of our full Rishikesh travel guide.

Is Rishikesh suitable for a solo traveller?
Yes, it's one of the most solo-traveller-friendly towns in India, especially around the ashram and yoga-school circuit, with a steady flow of international visitors.
Do I need to book a rafting trip in advance?
It's not usually required outside peak season, but booking ahead is safer during weekends and the October–March high season.
Is Rishikesh part of the Char Dham Yatra route?
It's the traditional gateway and starting point for onward routes to Kedarnath, Badrinath, Gangotri, and Yamunotri.
Can I get non-vegetarian food in Rishikesh?
Rarely in the central pilgrim/ashram areas, which are vegetarian by custom; options are more likely further from the ghats.
How many days do I need in Rishikesh?
3-4 days covers the main sights, a rafting trip, and some ashram/yoga time comfortably; longer if you're doing a yoga course.
