By train
Kathgodam is the principal railhead, followed by a long hill-road journey through the Kumaon foothills.
By bus and road
Uttarakhand Roadways and shared vehicles connect Ranikhet with Haldwani, Kathgodam, Almora and regional towns, with reduced frequency later in the day.
Always use the terminal and boarding point printed on the latest ticket; similarly named stations can be far apart.
