Qutub Minar, begun by Qutb-ud-din Aibak in 1192 and completed by his successor Iltutmish, is a 72.5-metre red sandstone and marble minaret covered in intricate carvings and Arabic calligraphy. The surrounding Qutub Complex includes the Quwwat-ul-Islam Mosque and the corrosion-resistant Iron Pillar. Climbing inside is not permitted.
