Built in the late 19th century, the Viceregal Lodge — now Rashtrapati Niwas and home to the Indian Institute of Advanced Studies — is one of Shimla's finest colonial buildings, set amid manicured gardens on Observatory Hill. It served as the residence of British viceroys and witnessed important pre-independence discussions. Guided tours cover its ornate interiors and history; the gardens and Himalayan views are a highlight in themselves.
How to reach Viceregal Lodge (Rashtrapati Niwas)
